I just got off the phone with 'Pixar Story' director Leslie Iwerks. I asked her a couple of questions about the film, such as when it'll be released on DVD.About that, she told me that the documentary should be included with a DVD box set of Pixar films that is due out as early as June. Also, it'll probably be on the WALL-E DVD this fall.
This not too surprising considering that one of her previous films, The Hand Behind the Mouse (which profiled her grandfather, Disney animator Ub Iwerks), has been bundled with previous Disney DVD releases.
Near the end of the call, I asked about whether The Pixar Story would be shown at any more film festivals in the future. She responded by saying that since the film is getting its U.S. cable TV debut tonight (on Starz), no more film festival screenings are planned. (Nothing planned for the Toronto International Film Festival. Bummer.)
Now to try and find some more details on that box set...

Well, I hope there's a way of getting "The Pixar Story" with "Wall-E" on DVD ... I already own every Pixar film in one or more formats -- VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray.
Also, this story doesn't let us know if there will be any DVD bonus material -- and Leslie has hours and hours of longer interview pieces at her disposal, along with an entire section about the construction of Pixar's Emeryville campus.
Hopefully the DVD release will feature a bit more from people like Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnston, Joe Grant, Joe Ranft and others who are no longer with us.
What about Blu-ray? Is it going to be on the Wall-E Blu-ray?

Blu-ray? For sure!
I'll probably get it on the WALL-E DVD.
I just finished watching this on Starz and was inspired. I'm reading the book at the same time and find it wonderful that the magic seems to have tranferred from Disney to Pixar. Leslie has done an outstanding job with the documentary!
