Well, he was wrong, but give the guy credit for acknowledging his mistake.
I must say I love your blunt editorialization here :)
Anonymous: Well thank you.
I love how every time Pixar does something, there's always a bunch of people who say it'll never work. And then it works. And then, as you say, they have themselves a nice big helping of humble pie. I dunno, you'd think they'd catch on after ten films.
Nice try, Mr. "Oh, It's Not Gonna Succeed!"
Upcoming Pixar reports that it is now the second highest grossing Pixar film domestically of all time--currently with 268 M, and now it is on its way to challenge Finding Nemo's 339 M.
Yeah, you'd think they would. but with Pixar's track record people are constantly looking for reasons their next movie will break the winning streak. It doenst make sense for any studio to hit home runs non stop like this. I'm sure we'll start hearing how people don't want to see yet another toy story sequel, probably point out how most third entries in trilogies fall flat.
But in the end, I confident those too will eat crow, er "humble pie" once the movie is released.
I hate throwing a wet blanket on rosy statements but I never trust "dollar-for-dollar" comparisons, especially for anything past three years of difference (ex. A 2003 movie vs. A 2009 movie).
When you take inflation into account, "Up" will need to at least make $320 million dollars domestic before anyone can actually claim that it's #2 behind "Finding Nemo." Until then, "The Incredibles", "Monsters Inc." & "Toy Story 2" are higher.
I think "Dumb" is too harsh.
He was wrong in this matter, and that's it.
I'm sure he's been right on other things he's done, enough to keep his job as an analyst, so I sincerely doubt his lack of intelligence.
Humility is a mark of the wise. Let's not run someone down for exhibiting by replying with insults.
I too think that 'dumb' is the wrong word. He was wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he is dumb.
I have to say I feel your name calling in this situation is a little harsh. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and thoughts, if someone sees uncertainty in a movie from Pixar that is their prerogative. Calling someone Dumb just because they have an opinion that differs from your own just shows ignorance. I have a higher respect for someone who has an opinion and when proven wrong can say so, and with dignity. There is no dignity in name calling.
I'll go with dumb myself.
This weekend, Up made 4.6 M estimated, and Pixar Planet is guessing that it'll be somewhere around 280 M in the end. If they keep it in for many, many weekends like they did WALL-E, it could still surpass 300 M--though it won't get past Finding Nemo after all. Too bad--Finding Nemo isn't the best anyway.
More Up news--foreign totals are somewhere around 40 M, and that brings Up to 314 M, most recently surpassing Chicken Little in worldwide totals among CG films!
Why are they predicting these things anyway? Idiots.
Well, Pixar fans got screwed again on toys because of the speculators. There are some hideous UP PVCs available, and some ugly figures on the horizon, but just as with Ratatouielle the A team toy sculptors and producers ignored the movie and everyone walked away unhappy.
